I recently purchased a Pearson 28 from 1975. The hand pumps in the galley and head are not operating. Seals all dried up and shot. The Galley hand pump is a Topsider and it is no longer available. Does anyone have any suggestions of a pump to replace it?? I don't want to go electric pump. BTW in the head it is a long narrow hand pump very simple again the seals are all shot so need this replaced as well. But it's a funny install. The sink is a basin and goes up and down to get out of the way and the pump is very narrow and long right next to it.

You can replace the manual pump with any manual pump that fits. A trick I did is to add an electric pump in series with the galley hand pump. It is wired through a three position maintained push/pull switch (similar to old car off/parking/head lights) mounted in the counter top. The in position is off, the mid-position is wired in series with a large momentary push-button mounted at knee height (allows use of both hand) and the full-out position it runs continously. You can use either the manual pump or the electric pump as desired. Make sure you mount the electric pump low near the tank as they are not self priming. This is not a pressure system but you will not empty your water tank into the bilge if/when you spring a leak.

I like your idea. Was this your own design or did you buy a system? PLUS.. I forgot to mention what I'm trying to replace is LOW PROFILE. Right under the entryway to cabin. I could re locate it but trying not to.

It is not rocket science. It is a simple idea to increase convenience. I added the electric pump on my tent trailer about thirty years ago, on my previous sailboat twenty years ago and on my present sailboat when I bought her ten years ago. Remember the KISS principle. Keep It Simple Sailor (or is it Stupid?).
