Disassembly

Has anyone any experience taking this long extension shaft off the gear box for a Hood Stoaway inmast system? I have a new gearbox coming, but am at a loss as to how to disassemble this one.
One would expect a pin as on the other two shafts (black arrows) The red arrows are only on the fitting that the winch handle goes into and are not any part of the disassembly.

No experience, but can the winch handle fitting be hiding a bolt down thru the shaft? Once the fitting is removed, the bolt or cap screw or nut may be accessible?

Are you trying to remove the smaller shaft from the housing? Is there a screw with an Allen head in that oval section on the face of the housing?

The shafts on the gear box are only about 5/8ths inch. I don't see a bolt small enough to fit inside the shaft holding up against a winch handle's leverage to furl the main sail on a 50' boat. But thanks.

If I were to guess, the large shaft is trapped by the smaller diameter shaft. The small shaft would have a clip ring to keep in the assembly, or the smaller shaft could be drifted out of the assembly. There appears to be a hex screw in the alloy box, that may also be locking the assembly together.

If you have a new gearbox coming, I think you're going to say 'Oh snap, now I get it' and you'll see how it goes together. I suspect that the socket head capscrew that is showing on the winch handle end (there are 2 right?) remove those and there maybe a bolt under that that connects the long shaft the the box. End could have a key or spline to transfer the torque of the winch handle shaft to the box. If your very unlucky, it could be an interference fit. If so you need to apply heat/cold.

Unfortunately, with two tropical storms headed our way we don't have the luxury of waiting until the new gear box arrives to figure things out. We've gotta be all ready to slap it together and get under way.
Wouldn't you know it; 3 years w/o a storm and when we finally decide to discombobulate this bit, Neptune says, "Gotcha!"
We'll try heat tomorrow.

Just to follow up.
Took the unit into the shop at Rodney Bay Marina and the 'Chinaman' had his guys mess about for a few minutes before applying heat to the steel bit. Once heated it came off the keyed shaft with the help of a pair of hammers pounding on opposite sides and a large vice.
It sure will be a comfort to have a manual back up for the electric, after 4 years without.
