Any of you worried about your boats or had to move your boats due to the ignorant people that sleep all day and burn there own community at night!

With respect, I'd have to say that simplistic characterizations like that are part of the problem. Our communities are hurting. And its not just a Milwaukee problem. Or just an 'ignorant people' problem.

Perhaps after looking back, ignorant may be a harsh word, however what do you call people that burn down their own community, rob, steal, shoot each other

And condone attacks on police by armed criminals. And snarl at police who try to protect themselves. Even when they are the same race.
I think there are many very good words to describe this type of behavior.
However, this is the wrong forum.

"Stupid" is a harsh word... "Ignorant - lacking knowledge or awareness in general; uneducated or unsophisticated" is not. Only humans vent their rage and frustration by destroying their own habitats--not because they're stupid, but because they've not been taught that it's not the way to solve their problems.

sailnewbie had a good question. If my sailboat was there I would be worried. I hold similar opinions to the above posts but I won't let my buttons get pushed.

I got to admit, if this was happening close to my boat, I would be on it with my AR15 protecting my property. Ain't any different than someone trying to burn your house down.

My thought is that a boat is nothing more than an inanimate object not worth losing your life over or taking another's. My son, who keeps his boat at the SSYC in Milwaukee., was taught a long time ago by his MMA teacher that if someone puts a weapon in your face demanding your wallet, the best move is to slowly reach into your pocket and give it to him.

However, if that someone says he's going to kill you, the best move is to take the weapon and " do unto others".

I'll reserve comment on the following excerpt:
"Ignorant people that... burn there community"

Ignorant is one of many words that are correct! I'll shut up now, I'll get banned otherwise!
I will say this, I have had rocks thrown at me by folks that the day before I called friends, my only crime was that I was moving out of the projects to a much better place! So ignorant works fine!

I'm not sure you understood my point.

Was in Milwaukee during the riots in the late 60's with National Guard tanks in the streets and I'm sorry to see that things have not changed much in 50 years.

Both the anarchists and city officials, including law enforcement, believe it is the best course of action for them to stay within the boundaries of their neighborhood and burn their own stuff. It saves lives, politician jobs and it is more cost effective to help them clean up and rebuild than to have to battle them should they try to jump the boundaries. It's only a loss to the businesses, insurance companies and tax payer. It seems that every major City subscribes to the template.

Bad stupid ignorant people do things that others, who do not lack in critical and intelligent thinking, would realize are not the actions that benefit themselves. Others, encourage this sort of behavior because they somehow benefit from the destruction and publicity garnered from such actions. If one takes a close look at what has occurred, one could blame the current conditions on the failure of 50 something years of failed political policies that have decimated the inner cities in so many ways. The politicians keep promising change and the only thing I see is a rehash of old ideas that have never led to real positive change. It's a case of the blind leading the blind. Violence is never the answer, but sometimes it is required to protect innocent. That being said, I hope there was no damage to any marina properties or boats and I pray that calm and peace will finally descend on the area.

Milwaukee is safe and then some. So are the boats. The disturbances were very isolated geographically, and a small number of instigators were at fault. Things have been quiet since Sunday night. I live just over 2 mi from the scene of the disturbances. No worries. I went to my boat at South Shore on Tuesday and was at McKinley on the north side on Wednesday, and there were no signs of anything amiss. My own view: the Sheriff's Dept is in good hands with its deputies and command staff, despite (not because of) Sheriff Clarke.
