The starboard port light, above the starboard settee, is leaking. I removed the inside frame. It is clearly leaking around the frame. The gasket on the opening part is just fine. So, I have a rebedding project on the list.

How does one remove the exterior aluminum frame without damaging it?
Yes, I'm sure the answer is "carefully" but I just don't know where to start.

See the little gap in the bottom of the frame? Mine have 2 gaps but on the left and right sides midway.

I was recently aboard in the same heavy rain that hit Louisiana flood and found my leak was coming from water entering just one of those gaps!!!

Bedding (appeared ok) and gasket were great on a new window pane and new O-rings on all the dogs. I was about to cut a new gasket too.

The dang leak was permeating the bedding caulking, like a through a sponge. Oozing only at that gap.
So I plan to NOT re-bed but simply seal the gaps with a clear Polyurethane caulking from the outside.

I had 4 windows dripping for exactly the same reason. While just misting in that rain, I did a quick caulk on the worst one. NO MORE LEAK!

Not an answer to your question, but perhaps an alternative.;)

I am not sure what my bedding is, but if it is Dow 795... I wonder if others have the same "aging porosity" problem using 795.
Jim...

If you remove the plastic trim ring you will see screws on the inside. Remove them and then having someone carefully hold onto the window on the outside push it out. Once out clean it off and rebed it with butyl tape (Mainsail's stuff is the best) and re-install.

Is there no way to take the aluminum frame on the outside off?

When you push from the inside or pry it off from the outside that is where you put the butyl tape.
