This article reminds me of the Musical/Play, "Westside Story."
The Sharks (Orca's) versus the Jets. Orcas to me, are like the lions of the sea,
as they primarily run in packs. I've seen videos of Orcas attacking Blue &
Sperm whales not to mention other creatures.
I don't feel that the whales were particularly protecting the seal but more,
so a hatred between the different speces. I do know that Orcas are known
to also attack different strains of baby whales. Maybe this is where the animosity stems from.
Some of you may remember the famous Orca whale Shamu that killed the trainer in Orlando Florida late last year. Again, this hits close to home for me. And, he was the famous whale SHAMU. There were prior incidents that should have thrown up red flags but because of profit........were ignored. Look at how that turned out.
I met Dawn once.......she was one great mammal/wildlife lover & a splendid person.
It's sad, Orcas both land & sea, are dangerous & predatory creatures. Yet, for entertainment value & profit, we have these dangers waiting to happen. Orcas have also been known to attack man.
I have both snorkeled & dove with whales incl. Atlantic Pilot, & Whale Sharks (not really a whale but, very big & docile sort of like a whale). They are a blast to swim with.
