RIP Wally the dead whale concludes tour of California

A dead Humpback washed up on the beach in Los Angeles on July 1, they towed it out to sea.
Next stop was Laguna Beach just in time for the Pageant of the Masters, next stop Dana Point, then Encinitas. When it got to San Diego it broke the tow ropes and they had to cut it up and truck it to a landfill. If they'd been able to get it off the beach in San Diego it'd be in Ensenada now.

Was the name Wally inspired by the Dilbert cartoon?

LA knew the whale would eventually wash up on San Diego shores. If there is to be a wall, it should be between Orange County and San Diego County. Camp Pendleton is a barrier reef protecting us from the LA encroachment. And like-wise, preventing San Diego from annexing Orange County and Los Angeles.

Maybe try something like some brainiack did on an Oregon beached whale a few years ago. set off a few pounds of c-4 under it to save the effort of towing it away. there were chunks of whale blubber spread around for miles, including a few spectators and cars in a nearby parking lot.

When the reporter (my old pal Paul Linnman) retired he said the exploding whale was his most memorable story.

There are some unbelievably, incredibly awesome bits of alliteration in his narrative. Truly a great piece of journalism.

If you ever speak to Paul again, please convey my gratitude for that segment. "Blasted bits of blubber beyond all believable bounds" must be one of the greatest lines ever written or uttered - especially in light of the visuals from the event. I've even memorized it (saw that old video a few weeks back when Wally first showed up, but not since then). Good stuff!

Journalist cannot write like that anymore. If it doesn't include body parts and blood, it is not journalism.
