pump recycling every 5 min or so. I've check all fittings on both sides of the pump. All are tight and no leaks. Any thoughts?
Thanks. Bob

rfrye1,
Possibly air in the system, although the regularity of the timing makes me think you have a leak somewhere. Have you checked all of the lines going to your plumbing fixtures and the fixtures for a drip?

If it's a diaphragm pump, the diaphragm has most likely worn out As they wear, they develop thin spots that turn into pinholes--that's when the pump starts to cycle for a millisecond every few hours...longer and more frequently as the hole gets bigger...till finally the pump runs continuously but no longer moves any water. You can buy replacement diaphragm kits till the pump is so old they no longer support it...contact the mfr with the part# and/or model name.

Our original 1991 Flojet brand water pump was doing that awhile ago. No fitting leaks, so I contacted the manufacturer and explained the symptoms, which was a leaking check valve. Ordered a new check valve and pump, replaced the valve on our old pump (easy to do with basic tools) that we now have has a spare. Installed the new pump and all is well now going on two seasons.

Our fresh water pump is referenced in the following link:

I checked every fitting again, so it must be the pump. Thanks Peggy and Terry.
