Have any of you noticed that every few months the various sailing magazines have a special issue on catamarans? That issue will be loaded with catamaran advertisements and include few articles extolling catamarans over monohulls. I imagine that the magazine prepares the articles and then shakes down the catamaran manufacturers to place ads in the "special issue." Some might call it extortion. Also, I can read a monthly sailing magazine in less than an hour. Not much content in most of them and I know all the advertisements by heart.

Our main "big three" are.... Good Old Boat, Practical Boat Owner, and Yachting Monthly (later two from the UK).
The no-cost Lat. 38 is pretty good reading too.

Practical Sailor, Good Old Boat and Small Craft Advisor. When all of my kids were still living at home, we would stop by Barnes & Nobel about twice a month and I'd grab a copy. I don't read them as much anymore.now that the kids have grown up.

I actually have a subscription to Sail but it mostly annoys me ... it is either all about racing which I'm not involved in or it features boats that I'll never afford. I don't have anything against racing... I just never got into it. I do like Sail's feature where they profile a near disaster and then go through the "What I did Wrong" and "What I did right" and I like the "Ask the Experts" section. But Sail is kind of pricey for just a few pages of text that I actually read.

I also second @Kermit 's comment about this forum. I get a lot more out of this than any other source of info.

I enjoy Good Old Boat and Small Craft Advisor, along with that nice freebie, Spinsheet. I used to enjoy Sailing when it was free for being a member of ASA, but it was really only a fantasy read, though certainly a magazine of quality.
