Is it worth getting a Genny?

I only have 2 sails for my H23.5 a main and a jib would it be worth it getting a genny for it for the light air days? What sails do most of you 23.5/ 240 owners have.

Given two things; we have the same weather as you, and the way that your boat is rigged, a big genny could not be trimmed in far enough to provide any value upwind, and it's too heavy to stay afloat downwind. The Hunters are not designed for it. That said, a large (very large if you want) asym is an excellent choice for the kind of Oilberta breezy days we're talking about. The look of the lake in your picture is same as the look of the lake in mine.
Our kite is probably close on 40% larger than it should be. If it were used in a real air, it could be a problem, but the cutoff is 12kts, and not at all if it's shifty and gusty.

An asymmetrical certainly will work very well in light airs. I have the Hunter 26.5 which is basically an overgrown 23.5. I race it so needed more sail and run a 155. You have to install a genny track to handle this though. I can out point most boats so no problem there.

the 23.5 will not take a larger genoa due to the deck and gear which would be in the way. Suggest for light air an a symmetrical genoa. One good thing about swept back spreaders, you can pull the jib in further

Our mooring neighbor has a code 0 on a homemade top down furler, and there will be video eventually, if we can ever get the drone in the air.

Each boat is different and due to the deck design which I know all too well of the 23.5, anything than the supplied 110 jib lapper will not work in genoa size due to the lines being led aft

The H265 has inboard shrouds that allow the use of a genoa. Boats with outboard shrouds cannot use overlapping headsails (genoas). The sail would have to be trimmed AROUND the very wide rig, which is not workable.

These boats make up for this with larger mainsails to maintain similar sail areas,

Which is why an asym or a code 0 is the best choice for the intended purpose in the conditions up here in sunny oilberta
(Which right now are the preview to the coming apocalypse)

Indeed, light air jib reaching is these boat's weak-spot. Its why Codes were invented.

Oh yeah, our neighbour can run away from us with his 0, IF the wind angles are to his benefit, which we rarely allow. :)

;^) get on a happy angle with a code and it's bye-bye!

Yeah well I'm sure any advantage will dry up once he gets on here and reads this. Nice shot of BlueJ.

Hunter 23.5 Augusta
New Hunter 23.5 owner here. Looking at a new set of sails and the asyms are listed on some of the sail maker sites. The owners manual only shows symmetrical with a pole. I'd love to hear from someone who is flying an asymmetrical spinnaker on a 23.5. How does it work?
