Hi fiends, I just joined. I have a bit of an odd boating journey. I had a 28' Mako withh twin 200s that spent too much time in the shop and decided to simplify, really simplify to a Hobie Tandem island. Over the last few years the Hobie made me fall in love with sailing. So now a new part of my sailing journey is a 1974 25' Helms. The boat is solid, sails in good shape, good trailer. Of course there are a lot of cosmetic issues, replacing lines etc. From what I can see the two main repairs will be,
1) Replacing the upper and lower shrouds.
2) Freeing, inspecting, and cleaning the swing keel.
For now I want to go ahead and replace the upper and lower shrouds. So, here is my question. For a boat like this do you typically go full DIY - measure the wire, find a similar size and replace it? Or is there a place where you order new shrouds online custom fit to your boat? if so it's tough to find...
Thanks!
