O'day 272 drain from stern to bilge

There are suppose to be what's call limber holes that allow for water flow to the bilge itself from various areas including the engine pan. Mine are currently plugged up but unless there is something else I'm not aware of, that is how water is transported from various compartment (s) to the bilge. There may be other
ways of directing water to the bilge that I am not aware of. Pat

Sometimes the limber holes get plugged with dirt too and that prevents sections from draining. If you can find the hole, just run a long length of wire down it and you might get the water draining again.

On our 272 the hole is along the forward side of the engine pan...the area behind the engine also runs into the
same limber hole....My thought about this drain has always been tempered by relief that water from the
engine pan could contaminate the bilge with oil that might drip from the engine making the boat smell like
oil....I do not want that either.....I remember a friends O'day 28 that always smelled like sour milk because the drain in the ice box ran directly to the bilge...and a 1/2 gallon of mile spilled in the ice box and ran to the bilge. It took a bit of time and work to get the smell of milk out of the bilge....you can feel the hole from the inside of the engine pan...mine is plugged.
