After so many trials and improvements on the pivot hole of the keel I finally decided to add two washers , one on each side of the keel at the pivot bolt level ...that should help prevent the keel from swinging sideways from starboar to port, and pendulum swinging. need advices for the material to use , of course weaker than fiberglass ( walls of the casing ) ..teflon nylon rubber ???and dimensions 4 inches diameter and quarter inch thickness ?????

Catalina 22 Swing Keel San Diego
Go to McMaster Carr, look up washers by the inner diameter = keel pin diameter, choose material plastic, either Delrin, Acetal, or UHMW. In the link below, I got a pack of 10 for $13 of the Delrin flavor for my Catalina 22 that has a 1 inch keel pin. The inner diameter in a little bigger by a few thousandths of an inch, 1.025 so it slips over the pin with no issue. Don't worry about how thick they are, just stack them on each side to center the keel and then take up the space. I ended up just using 2 on the port side and one on the starboard, perfectly centered and no slop. I gave a few to a friend who is also working on his C-22 keel.

Keep a half turn of tension on the keel winch and you will stop the fore-aft swinging... however the taught line will start to hum when you get some speed on.

as a former dealer, Catalina came out with a shim kit that was applied to the sides of the keel and when deployed downward would shim between the keel and keel trunk housing which worked well but you will need to go to bare metal to attach the shims to. First see if this site store can get those shims. If not, Catalina direct and if not, nearest Catalina dealer and finally call Skip at the Catalina factory in Largo, FL. If you do call Skip, say Crazy sent you and he will help you.

I did that but still banging when boat is at dock stopped at end of day .... on the other hand I am not sure that putting two washers on each side is a good thing to do....it might do some damage on the keel pivot bolt ...

Do you know how it works for the smaller bolt tthat we insert in order to avoid the kee; from going up while sailing...The one I have does not go all the way thru ..except when Keel is raised up about 30 degrees ...and then it stops bangong...why ?? dont understand ..
