On our H356 the mast has a joint between the gooseneck and the first spreader. This mast was replaced 2 years ago because it had been dented while in storage. I think the original mast also had this same joint. Walking around the marina I'm in I don't see other Selden masts with a joint. Any idea why Selden would construct a mast this way ?
Thanks, Bob

maybe to use a cut off or a drop ...they may be able to splice cheaper than they can discard a 15 ft drop

It's for shipping. Saw a Swan with one and others. Seems to be a popular procedure for production boats.

A boating neighbor of mine, who worked in the aluminum busines at one time, told me that raw aluminum slugs(?) only come in one size from the foundry and so they have a limit as to how long they can be extruded for things like a mast. Don't know if that is true or not but just puttin it out there.
