Exterior mildew, will anything prevent it??

Here too! We will try the same stuff (not the brand name at half price, my post #26) for the interior wipe down of teak.
This time of year, with the temperature swings, we can get the mildew "haze" on much of the interior. I would never use bleach on wood (that is one of chemicals to turn wood into paper). Normally a varnish or coating on wood would protect it from bleach.

I bought an Eva-Dry 2200 dehumidifier for the interior. I installed a drain hose on it, which goes down the sink drain. Keeps her fresh as a daisy inside.

That sounds like just the ticket for us. How did you install the drain hose? Pictures?

Forbin, I did not have a widespread problem with mold on the deck of my C&C 110. I recently purchased the boat and there were some areas where lines had laid on the deck over the winter which caused localized blooms. The non-skid surface is very fine and it's difficult to scrub away the mold. I placed the diluted mixture of Wet and Forget in a small handheld spray bottle to apply it to the moldy areas. On a previous boat I applied the mixture to the entire deck with a pump type garden sprayer. It goes on quickly and because it is neutral, it is not necessary to prevent overspray to other materials like when using some other chemicals.

Thanks Ted. Since we're reporting back, I too have not had an issue in areas where I used Wet & Forget. I'm really happy to not be using a fine bristled toothbrush to get in to the non-skid! I used it on some canvas areas as well that were starting to grow moss. Pretty amazing stuff.

Be really careful of using bleach anywhere on your boat where it may come in contact with metal fittings or you'll be replacing them sooner than you want to.... ask me how I know...

I purchased some of the pool supply conchrobium, and am going to give it a try. Has anyone tried this tip, and how did it work?

That sounds like just the ticket for us. How did you install the drain hose? Pictures?

No pics, but real simple. I just very carefully drilled a hole in the water tank and installed a threaded nipple. Stuck a hose on it and presto. Now it drips right down the sink drain.

I looked at this product. Sales information sounds great, but it is NOT Wash&Forget chemically.

Although it appears that may be the "Stain Remover" and not the "Preventer", careful which of their brand name products you buy.
This is an enzyme activated product that makes Hydrogen Peroxide ( a bleach like, non chlorine oxidizer). Use this with caution. Test a small spot first. Also their concept of "coating" to prevent regrowth... well that coating is water soluble.

I am not saying it won't work, but it is used for mold treatment in mold sensitive areas (hospital, kitchen, etc).
I will personally pass on Conchrobium on my boat.

Jim,

I confused the active ingredient in the pool algaecide. it is not Conchrobium, it is Alkyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride , or Benzalkonium chloride. This is the active ingredient in Wet and Forget, in which it is diluted to 9.9%

Gene, I did almost the same thing, except in the drilled hole I glued in a 1/4" irrigation barbed fitting ($0.14) and attached 10' of clear vinyl aquarium tubing ($1.00) to that. Keep the hose end lower than the container and Bob's your Uncle. The automatic shut off will always be there if the bucket fills up for some reason.

I could not find what pool product (MSDS) you bought, as noted.

Those ingredients are W&F for sure and why you should use this and NOT bleach on wood.
I used a type of W&F to remediate Hurricane Katrina flooded home to kill bacteria, mold, toxic mold, mildew, etc. without damage to the structure.
I buy mine at local chemical company and pool supply house. I will check if there is a brand name.
