I got me a new Hawkeye depth finder, I can either mound it on the stern or I can glue it on the inside of the hull. Where would be a good location to mount this? Where on the boat is the water ballast tank ? from bow to Stern?

My boat is a hunter 23.5

Thanks.

The water ballast runs from the bulkhead forward of the compression post to just aft of the companionway steps. I mounted my depth transducer under the aft berth center access cutout. I used toilet wax for a non-permanent solution, but I think the current, less messy consensus is plumbers putty.

I can answer that for you better than most as I was the one who got Hunter going on building this boat. Under the rear berth adjacent to but on the starboard side of the bilge area. Sand the gelcoat down to bare fiberglass and clean off with acetone. Apply plumber's putty and stick your Transducer down and then use some tape to hold it in place and leave it alone until the next day. Build the putty up around the transducer and make sure the putty is adhered to the hull and transducer. The key here is also not to have any air bubbles from the face of the sending unit to the fiberglass.

Uncle Crazy Dave did just that on my H260 over a year ago. The depth finder/fish finder is still finding depth and fish today. Or it was Saturday.
