I came across this battery. Can anyone tell me if 2 of these would make a decent house bank? I know that my fridge uses about 6 amp hr. and my lights are led's. I think my largest power draw will be my fridge and auto-pilot when in use. These are new batteries and I was just wondering if they were worth the 60.00 that their asking for them. I have a 120 watt solar panel on the bimini.
So????????
Thanks again

no, they wont make a good house bank. that is a starting battery.
they could be used short term when nothing else is available, but they wont deliver many amps before needing recharged, and they wont last very long in the application... and this information is what I would tell someone who isnt trying to run a fridge from them...

I thought AGM'S were good for deep discharging and more cycles that standard lead-acid. And they are maintenance free.
These might not have a large reserve but they are group 31's. For that reason I thought they would make good house bank batteries.

Even within the agm field there are start and deep cycle versions. I had an Optima Bluetop in my Mac

Thanks that's the information I was looking for. Looks like from the graph it will run at 9 amps for about 9 hr. before voltage drops below 12. Now I guess I'll have to get a new charger!
Thanks again

For the price, if they really are new, use them till they die but don't go out of your way to modify the boat to fit them. Varta batteries are a cheap Johnson Controls product that fair worse than the Deka/East Penn AGM's in cycling applications. Johnson Controls also bought Optima and the quality of those has fallen off the cliff. It used to be I would see the EnerSys made Optima's (EnerSys invented the Optima battery and TPPL AGM's) used for starting lasting 7 years+ now I am seeing 3 years on average under JCI..... For $120.00 use them till they are dead...
