I am going to add pressurized water into my boat. I posted a thread a while back and I didn't get many returns on Fresh Water Pump Brands. This is going to be more of a quick survey.

Which Fresh Water Pump is the best overall when comparing price, length of service, availability of parts, etc.?

A. Jabsco
B. Shurflow
C. Johnson
D. West Marine
E. Other (Specify Brand)

No idea if its the best but my Shurflo has been in use trouble free now for 13 years. It is the most basic one that just runs when a faucet is opened.

My OEM B has been working for 30 years. They don't (cry, sniff) make that particular model anymore.

I just replaced mine with the West Marine model. It looks identical to the Jabsco but was less money. Same specs as well. My original failed on a weekend and I didn't WA t to wait for defender.

My original ShurFlow lasted 22 years.. it was killed by my ex wife letting it run for several hours with no water in it.. shook the head bolts loose and allowed water to seep into the drive section, failing it after a few more years. Good idea to periodically check the screws that hold the diaphragm head onto the body.. I have one of the new variable speed Shurflow pumps that has been great for 6 years so far, but I have a feeling that it will not last over 20 years as did the original.

I have a West Marine that I believe is actually a Johnson. It's been running flawlessly for about ten years. Had to replace the pressure switch once, but you get that on any demand pump.

I ended up buying a Shurflow 3.0 gpm pump for my boat. New off of ebay with strainer for $95. It isn't a bad deal considering the West Marine pump was $130 without a strainer for the 3 gpm pump.

I put in a new SHURflo pump about five years ago when the old (very old) SHURflo pump died. No problems to date. I also added an accumulator tank to reduce cycling and an in-line strainer to protect the pump. The accumulator tank is optional, but the strainer is important.

P.S.: I realized just after posting my reply that you already made your choice. A good one by the way.

I had changed out a 13year old Shurflo in transom bilge area (moist with occasional dripping water). Motor was intermittent and housing rusted some. The new Jabsco unit has plastic body, higher pressure and easy lock fitting.
I suppose i won't have rust issue with the new pump.

I see this project is done, but I'll add for others' future ref.
Still have original Jabsco diaphragm pump (picture). 31 years old.
High pressure, and with the accumulator will drive multiple simultaneous fixtures.
The beauty if this design is that it's completely modular. Motor, connectors, rubber pump bits, etc. All accessible and replaceable. And belt drive - no shaft to rust and break.
I've only replaced the bottom rubber pulse dampener and the in/out connectors/check valve. Just unscrew. Nothing to it.
We use it every weekend.
Also, diaphragm pump so doesn't care about running dry.
Another important aspect is that it makes a smooth pulsing sound, not the grinding vibration that the jabsco centrifugal pump made on the previous boat.

That would be serious overkill. The pump is going into a 23 foot boat with a 13.5 gallon water tank.

That is like squirrel hunting with a 50 cal machine gun.

You sound like a man of experience.

Yep, wrong application. Didn't look at your profile, nor was the boat type specified in the thread.
But still valid view re best brand fresh water pump, when others might analyze the topic for a different setup.

Skipper, your PAR(Jabsco) pump is long out of production, the newer Jabsco pumps are both quieter, lower maintenance, and less expensive. I threw my PAR parts pump away last year thinking no one used them anymore, silly me.
