Battery amp hr capacity

I am resetting our Xantrex Link 2000. I am not sure how to calculate our existing battery capacity. We have 4 six volt batteries in 12 volt series. So effectively two banks of 12 volts. Each of the 6 volt batteries is rated at 130 amp hr. What is the total capacity of the whole bank. Is is 260 amp hr or is it 520 amp hr??

260 or less. When batteries are in series (as with any electrical supply) the current flow from one battery is exactly the same as the flow in the one it's in series with. The capacity number advertised by suppliers is the best case scenario as I understand it.

Most golf cart batteries are 210 - 245 Ah rated. The average would be a 225Ah GC2 battery.

When you wire in SERIES Ah's stay the same but VOLTAGE is added

When you wire in PARALLEL Ah's are added and VOLTAGE stays the same

A series parallel bank of four 6V GC2 batteries would be about 450Ah's, WHEN NEW.....

In order to properly set your Link 2000 you'd need to know the current Ah capacity, Peukert etc... If both of these banks are used as house batteries then they should be wired in series>parallel for one large bank..

AH calculation:
in a parallel circuit you add the amp hours of the "legs" of each parallel part
in a series circuit you would take the smaller of the AH of all the batteries wired in series.
so for your case; 4-6 volt wired to make 2- 12 volt batteries in parallel. each battery has 130 AH so two "legs" of 130 ah or 260 AH.
Also you might try to use that volt meter on the nav station to determine SOC. Most will tell you that you HAVE to wait several hours with no load to use voltage to tell SOC but there are charts that can tell SOC as long as you 1) know the amps going into/outof the bank and the total capacity of the bank. email me for the chart. BTW works for both charge and discharge. Unfortunatly I only have the charts for wet cell lead acid batteries.

Are you sure that your batteries are rated at only 130 ah? What brand are they?

Ahaa!! Checked with the sparky who installed the batteries. They are 225 ah and so I understand the capacity is 450 max.
Thanks for all the feed back.
