Most the answerers have overlooked the heart of the question. Moreover, nearly all the views are seriously fact averse. The heart of it is :

What is the difference between spa hose and sanitary hose. And if nobody knows then one would hope someone in this august group would be willing to discuss how we could go about finding out the difference - and someone did -Jackson.

Be entertained here - but obtain fact elsewhere. From Ms. Peggy's book.

No, you did NOT...

as quoted,
"so besides the purists and what a boat surveyor would say, would it work for sanitation lines?
I figure at the reduced price .. nearly a third of cost..of my original permiated stinky line.. I cant go wrong... any thoughts."

you already have "permiated stinky line"... why would you want a product that will give you more?
and I am definitely not a purist, or a conformist, and not narrow minded either...

Kinda the same reason you don't use dental floss for your mainsheet or halyards. Even if the color is the same. :)

Good luck.
Dental floss sounds like a good idea to join two lines together to run through a sheave if its all you had ..but we all are learning here that you don't use what is available ..if your halyard or mainsheet is damaged your sol because you have no option but to use the splicing line recommended by askallsailors or suffer the pier pressure at dock later

Guys, you will note that a few posts have been deleted. Please lets keep this civil and not berate anyone.

BO, really, if you want to try it, go for it. You have nothing to lose and if it works, you are all the better for it. You can also look at RV stores/sites for sanitation hoses. I know that the hose on my 30yo boat is still in great condition and does not smell. Just saying.

Would love to kick the soapbox out from under you
and now you argue with what is in your first post, for all to see. but lets assume that its not really clear where or what the question was..... if it was "has anyone ever tried using substandard sanitation hose?"... then the answer is yes, and it has proven not to be a good choice.
Im a quick learner and by doing a few things wrong, it gave me the intelligence to not do it that way anymore ...

one could use radiator hose, hydraulic hose, garden hose or any number of other substandard types of hose, but when you mentioned you already have permeated stinky hoses, I assumed you were trying to get away from that problem... so maybe I owe you an apology, and in addition I will agree with you that I think the hot tub hose would be the absolute best hose that YOU could ever use in the sanitation system on YOUR boat:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:
and go ahead and kick away at my soapbox, Im tall enough that I really dont need it anyway.

Hot tub hoses get very rigid and with hull flexing they would likely crack. It is a similar principle as avoiding the installation of an all PVC plumbing or copper tubing for propane gas.
Best answer so far thanks Benny ...you sure you don't wanna insult me or make me feel like an incompetent? Seems the norm on this forum..but thanks again..I know some hot tubs are outdoors and take extreme temperatures. I almost hate to say that because it will mean I'm arguing with you...but I'm not

Boatgeek - what do you want, an answer or approval?
You are making it kind of hard to be one your side. Nobody "KNOWS" the answer...(okay, one or two THINK they know the answer, whatever the question, but...).
You understand this is the internet with 200 billion or so opinions? Pick and choose - If you want to use garden hose or toilet paper tubes go for it. Lowe's hose may be the next big thing, perhaps it might be the small sailor equivilent of Bhopal. You go first!
Elitists really don't discuss poop and pee but us small "yacht" owners deal with crap whenever we're aboard.
If it stinks, fix it. If it leaks, fix it. If it still stinks and/or leaks fix it again and again until you fix it right. If all you have are Lowes, the Despot and Walmar, other than moving all I can recommend is mailorder or the least the best of bad choices.
The cheapest of hoses will not make SH*T not stink.

wandering around lowes hardware store I found some serious heavyduty hose being sold as hot tub hose.
has the 1 1/2 id I need

Chlorinated hot tub water has a vastly different chemistry than human sewage. This sewage is going to be acidic due the the uric acid in the urine, produce methane, hydrogen sulfide, and numerous other chemicals as the stuff degrades. Much harsher than disinfected hot tub water.

I've done a head hose replacement before and I have to say it was pretty much an all day job, I sacrificed the skin off all 10 knuckles, one elbow, lost five pounds in perspiration, swore more than was socially acceptable. No way I'd want to do that job any more frequently than absolutely necessary and I'd use the best hose possible in hopes a repeat would be NEVER.
