I purchased this boat in Georgian Bay where A/C is not needed very often so I would like to put an A/C unit under the salon seat and duct the air to the stern cabin, but where is there room to put the duct?
Thanks
Dave

I have a 1999 380 w/AC. The A/C unit itself is under the dinette set just forward of the trash can enclosure. All the duct work is on the starboard side. There are three registers: 1. In the V-berth the register is in the top of the medicine cabinet facing up. The ductwork runs under the dinette through the forward bulkhead into the vanity cabinet and up. 2. In the salon the register is in the aft outboard corner of the dinette, facing up. The ducting runs to along the deck and then up behind the dinette cushion and cabinetry. 3. In the aft cabin it is in the aft facing side of the hanging locker on the starboard side a few inches above the shelving at the head of the bunk. This register faces aft. the ducting runs at deck level behind the galley/reefer cabinetry, under the stove...it is visible in the cabinet behind the lift up door under the stove/oven, runs under the hanging locker and drawers (not visible when the bottom drawer or the locker is open. I recommend you consider getting a unit that also has the auxilliary heat option...you will never have to fool with space heaters.

You want an AC in Sandusky? Why?

In 16 summers of 20 to 40 nights on our boat on Lake Erie, we have had one night when we could have used AC! The water stays below 75, and night air comes off the water, so we are quite comfortable with a fan to keep the air moving. This is especially true at anchor/mooring, where the bow always faces wind off the water, sending sweet air down our forward hatch. A wind funnel over the hatch enhances this effect.

Side note, we in south Louisiana would be using AC right now because of the hot fog that we have going on..

Thanks for your help! I hope to start to add the A/C soon. Did you need to cut openings for the ductwork or is there enough room for a 4 inch duct? We live about 90 minutes from the boat which is stored outside so the weather is always a challenge to work around. Thanks again for the information.

David, your tough, we have had several boat w/o A/C, but a night with high humidity and no wind makes it difficult to sleep. We have fans but that is not enough; And a system with heat will be very nice in the spring and fall weather. By the way do you still keep a boat in Sandusky Harbor Marina, which is where we keep our boat?
