Here's more on it...apparently the damage is confined to the building, no boats involved:

For those who aren't familiar with the club, it's the one next to the Marriott at the Annapolis sail and powerboat show location.

Sad. At least no one was hurt and no boats were harmed. Still, sad to see that.

The Chesapeake Bay has many nice places: Tangier Island, Smith Island, St. Michaels, Onancock, Oxford, and Solomons Island are just a few. It is an amazing place to sail.
Annapolis is a great place to visit. I hope that things are repaired quickly. What a shame that it happened.

I expected heavy traffic for the parade of lights, but not to be routed away from the Spa Creek bridge going into downtown. Once I saw the smoke, I knew why. One firefighter and one civilian were hurt, but only minor. Parade of lights canceled, I feel sorry for all the restaurants and businesses that lost the expected business of thousands of people. The bridge was open when I came home at 11:00 P.M..
Update... Just got the morning paper. 2 firefighters in hospital, not serious. NO SPRINKLERS in this modeern building

If that was a modern building was there a code violation having no sprinklers? At least no one killed with no serious injuries to the two firefighters. You can always replace structures but not human life.
I never had the pleasure of visiting the club but I expect a lot of historical articles were lost. Sad. Sprinkler systems can be retro fitted to old and modern buildings. Maybe this fire will cause other clubs to consider adding a system. Luckily the alarm system got people out of the building.
Horrible to hear about the firefighters. I hope that they have a speedy recovery.

Yeah, it is either "smoke on the water" or "burning down the house".Took me a minute to get this.
The building was 30 years old, the club started in 1889 IIRC the evening news. They said it will relocate and rebuild. AYC owns property at the other end of the bridge, where they were about to start building some other facilites(pool).
Phil, Navy won by the chin of their chinny chin chin. Being an Army brat I went into the Navy. Some old time Army generals were not happy with me. But I root for VMI or some would know it as Virginia Military Institute as I graduated from there.
Second story posted says the fire may have been started by the Christmas Tree in the club house. This is why I have a fake tree and battery powered LED lights! (No plug in the wall = no fire!)
Probably a pretty devastating loss... I've never been inside the Annapolis YC Clubhouse (or even in Annapolis at all really), but I imagine that Clubhouse had a lot of 'history', as in architecture, art, craftsmanship, and historical artifacts. The SDYC is the same age (1886), but it moved around a few times and the present location in Point Loma goes back to 1924. I could walk around the SDYC Main Clubhouse for hours looking at the history that is tucked away in every corner, I can only imagine that the AYC building had just as much or more.
