Also sometimes it's called a deck pipe. They usually have a flip over cover to prevent rain from getting in. Sea Dog has them to fit a 1" chain or line. I put one ( a larger oval size) abotu 2 1/2" x 1 1/1/2") on my old H-27 because it did not have a anchor locker in the bow. The line was stored below deck in the bow cabin fore peak and the anchor wa s on the bow rail.........easy to install... rain never got in.
When putting up the boat for the season, always pull the rode through and put tape over the hole. It's like the number-one place for water to get in when there's snow on the deck.
If you boat is under a full cover (even shrink-wrap), do the opposite. Leave the whole cover off for better air.
