I just tried to buy a gallon of denatured alcohol for my Orion stove. The shipping was more than the alcohol. I cancelled (sorry SBO, I'll buy something else later -- ).

Where do you all find alcohol for your stoves?

I buy denatured alcohol at the hardware store. I don't know if that's stove worthy.

It's also a liquid thing. Liquids are heavy and in some cases, not particularly valuable.

:(

Well I'll check your store first next time. Can't pay nearly $19 shipping for a $15 product.

I buy mine at Simpson's Hardware in Sumter, SC. Simpson's was selected by Ace Hardware to be the best Ace Hardware in the country. Y'all should come see for yourselves. Especially at Christmastime. And I don't work there. Just a happy Simpson's customer.

Probably won't be much better, a gallon of alcohol is more than 7 lbs. Doesn't make any difference to FedEx what the liquid is, all they care about is the 7 lbs. They charge the same to ship 7 lbs of gold or 7 lbs of dog crap.

Don't ask how I know that.

Edit: Some things, like liquids, paint, batteries, lumber, are just better to buy locally. Everything else is better purchased online, though. :)

But at least 7 lbs of dog crap weighs more than 7 lbs of feathers.
Or
That must be a BIG dog!
HA! Got that beat. I ordered 7 lbs of air once. Dang it was expensive. But that still can't beat 7 lbs of vacuumed air from outer space.

LOL, it was the shipping TO the warehouse that was expensive for that one!

Try living in the West Indies! They won't even let you ship a computer battery by air for fear it's a bomb. Some of their rules are a bit daft.

Crown brand from Lowes. About $18 for a gallon. I can't tell any difference from the expensive "marine" stuff.
