Small USMC Battle Flag? Ah hell no! Fly those colors proudly, like I do on my boat. Port side spreader is where she will fly. :)

the link that you posted to the Annin flag etiquette site is good... is the chapman companion book better?
I already have a current chapman piloting/seamanship book.
Yes... besides the convenience of its quick reference feature, the book is a pocket book sized hardcover... so it's easy to keep in a handy place at the boat.

We have a flag? What's on it? Donald Trump?
It's actually a very nice flag. Y'all don't seem to fly it enough.[/QUOTE]
I don't think that many of us are aware of the flag. I guess we know its out there but if you polled NY'ers about anything specific on it, I don't think many would be able to answer. That's to our shame, I guess.

No state government classes in elementary school in NY? My sixth grade class in AR took a field trip to the state capitol building; we learned all about the flag. Or, do NY'ers mostly arrive to NYC as adults having grown up somewhere else?

Looks like the flag has lost some color.
That is the same flag that flew on Bagram Airbase, Afghanistan. I flew that flag every Sunday on the base just to let the soldiers know who they were working with. LOL

Here is the same flag on Bagram Airbase, taken April 10, 2010.

I have a feeling you're right. I'll fly it when you come sail with me.

We fly the American flag from the starboard stern, to starboard of the centerline...(Maybe 6-8 inches)...we have a flag halyard on the starboard spreader for my past commodore flag, our yacht club burgee and some times the State of Kansas flag, s noted above, per Chapmans there are certain size requirements for the American flag based on the length of the vessel. I luckily read Chapman's before I purchased the American flag as our flag is visible flying from shore....and from other boats...I was in Color Guard in the Navy so flying a flag correctly is important to me.....Patrick

Capt. Ron, On the USS Independence (CV-62) the Ensign was only flown off the stern when in port. The Ensign was flown from a starboard halyard off the the Island while at sea. At least as far as I recall. The Union Jack was flown off the bow in port as well. Signal flags were flown off the signal bridge on the port side of the island along with courtesy flags while in port.

As you can see in the picture to the left, big gaff on my part, I have the ensign flying from my starboard halyard and if someone doesn't like it...PREPARE TO REPEL BOARDERS!
