Hi Folks,
Since all of our O’day boats are at least 27 years old, I’m wondering how many of us have replaced the standing rigging?
I'm contemplating replacing my rigging despite the fact that visual inspections indicate no problems. Various sources on the web and riggers I’ve spoken to say 25 years is about the maximum life span, even for a freshwater boat. And that age-related problems may not be visible because they lurk inside swage fittings.
But when I look around my boatyard, especially the older boats, I don’t see a lot of new rigging. And most of the older boats for sale that I see on YW and other sites don’t list new standing rigging. I’m betting that those that did replace rigging are larger boats (30 feet and over) with higher rigging loads. Any event, I just wanted to expand my query and ask you all if you’ve done your standing rigging, and if so, why.
Best,
Greg
