Just purchased a 2001 Beneteau 361 and have to sail it from TX to MS. Would anyone have a list of the navigation/steaming light bulb numbers so I can buy some spares for the trip?

I have read the same thing, that in the vent of a collision the sea lawyers would jump right on the replacement bulbs as evidence that a boat was not properly lighted because she was using an unapproved or altered set of navigation lights, and therefore was a major contributor to the collision, regardless of the circumstances. I don't know if this story is an urban myth or true. The remedy might be to replace the existing fixture with a matching, approved one that now comes with LED lights.
COLREGS and IWR do NOT specify that a light on your boat needs to have meet any manufacturing standard. They ONLY specify that they meet published operational range, angle, and color requirements.

The manufacturing standards simply say that any given light does so at its time of manufacture. It does NOT speak to the quality of the install, the state of repair, or any other condition that might effect its current ability to meet those requirements.
You can have home-made or aftermarket lights on your boat, and as long as they meet the above published standards, you're fine. In fact, if you have non-electric light, you get a special pass.
