I just posted a new virtual reality video on our Youtube page at.

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMq93S6MbU_Z7c_215V1riQ

It's our “Position Report, June 7, 2015 - LaBelle city dock” and gives a bit of info about this FREE dock. By using the VR of the video you can look all around us and watch as we go through the bridge heading up the Caloosahatchee river, the west side of the Okeechobee Waterway.

THANK YOU guys!

Thanks for taking the time for watching and posting the comment. I am just getting used to this format and am interested in feedback. Most of the other videos in this format I see are simple snap & post, or games. I think that sailing is a good example of how this format can display way more info than the standard videos do.

As a matter of fact, in the video I posted about the Franklin Lock, I was so intent in keeping our boat off the wall and in the correct position, I did not see the doors closing. When I watched the video I got to see when the lock tender selected the close, and watch the doors close! :D

As I was looking around on the web and I saw the "Google Cardboard", a simple head set that uses a smartphone as the display. I found a plastic copy of it (no cardboard aboard our boat) for under $15.00. Slipped in my smart phone. When I watch the videos that way, as I turn my head, the picture tracks! So, if I look left, I see what is on the left side just as if I was on the boat!!! Soon, it's going to be time to take the sea sick pills!!;)

Very cool. Love that NorSea too!
THANKS! We do LOVE our Nor'Sea!

After we moved (with the boat) to the San Francisco Bay area, we would have a conversation about what boat we need to have about every 6 months. AND AT EVERY Sail Expo show! :)
We now have the same talk about once a year. So far, we have NEVER had any reason to change. And Jill has never asked to get off the boat.

Greg those are great!! Do you have a link to the camera you are using?
There are a few out there now. But, at this time I would rather not post to this specific camera. I WILL post after I use it a bit more and make sure it's worth the $$.

I can say that editing the video from it, to put in text, a music/narration track, and other items, is a JOB! Not as easy as I thought it would be.

We just posted a new virtual reality video.

This is the last in this series of our recent cruise from Tampa to So. Florida. It shows us rising 8 feet in the lock and reaching our destination for haul out. Hope you find it interesting!

NICE VIDEOS GREAT WORK....AND YES... IS VERY TIME CONSUMING

SUMMER

I use the Sony Bloggie MHS-PM5K With 360 Lens

The camera is decent for the price, offers 1080P at 30FPS, and has a very interesting 360 degree lens attachment. The downfall of the is only acceptable video quality and difficult to install software. Although Sony advertises the Bloggie as Mac compatible it only offers a simple media transfer Application and does not allow for the 360 degree panorama conversion. For that you have to rely on Windows.

there is an iphone adapter and app to accomplish this 360 videos but still in miss and try!

and once again its a lot of work!

I now have 2 VR cameras. Testing each one for usage and editing. The one these videos were made from do a 360 horizontal video, can't look up or down. The new one does 360 spherical videos so you can look up and see the sails & sky. But once more, a learning curve on how to edit! This is coming fast!

Have a plastic version of Google Cardboard (headset) that makes these MAGIC!!! Put on the headset and as I turn, I see the direction I am looking!

I think this type of video will change the world we live in!! I just saw a note that Ridley Scott is working on a VR movie! I like the stuff he has done.

THANKS SO much for the note!

We are getting ready to head back to the boat NOW! We are thinking down the west coast through 1000 islands to the Keys, then east.

We make the videos, then post them and see they get a few views, but don't know how people actually feel about them. That goes for the standard view and the VR ones.

If there is enough interest I will keep posting the VR series. I will keep taking the VR videos as I DO like to view them later and see what I missed that was behind me. :) But how much I post is sort of determined by the views.

Once more, THANKS for the note.

It's the next one that worries me. I have at least a month's worth of work to do before we splash and head out. And we are planing on attending the SSCA Melbourne Gam before we head out. Good info at a seminar/round table they are having.
