Best place to install GPS on Benetau 321

Would like some input as to the best place to install a GPS on a 321.

At present time am using a Garmin 441 S. The cable leads to the cable which comes out on the aft starboard side of the cabin. It is mounted on a bracket, and I would connect it when using the boat only, the rest of the time the cable sat alone. To avoid getting damanged by the sun, I would cover the cable with a piece of left over sunbrella.

Eventually one or two holes in the cable corroded and now will not work. I have ordered a new cable from Garmin , but would like to reposition the GPS and leave it permanently. I am thinking of placing it next to the depth finder monitor, which is on the starboard side beneath the lines to the winch for the main , halyard and reefing lines.
Has anyone installed it in this position ? Should a hole be cut out in the fiberglass to " frame " the GPS in ? Can someone send a photo of options for installation ?

You have instruments mounted on a NAVPOD?
If so, you can power from there and mount with a RAM Mount or similar.
I am anxious to see the replies since we have not mounted one yet on our B321.
I use a handheld, but a larger screen will be better if we ever do any long distance cruising.

The GPS cable was wired separately from the depth monitor. I think there may be room- it is a Garmin 441s which is not very large. I am just concerned about the all the lines in that corner. On the other hand the lines may offer some protection from the sun.

Hi. had not followed up as am having issues with the iphone version of the site. I placed a new depth finder where it was previously - in the panel below the mainsail winch and leave the cable to the GPS at the aft starboard side to avoid having to make more holes. I guess what I will do is eithier leave it in place or try to protect the cable connections better- have heard there is a spray you can us on the pin connections.
