Late August we spent 5 days in the Apostle Islands launched in Red Cliff and made a run out to Raspberry Island. It was cloudy and cool the first day. We are anchored on the other side of the sandspit.
A 3/4 mile hike across the island brings you to the lighthouse.
Just before sunset there was a break in the clouds. View of Oak Island about 2 miles away and low on the left is Otter Island about 5 miles away.
Morning at Raspberry brought the sun and warmer temps.
Had a nice run with the spinnaker to Stockton Island.
Hermit Island ahead.
Anchored at Presque Isle Bay and went for a 6 mile hike on the Tombolo and Anderson Loop trails. Stockton Island was at one time two islands. Over time sand filled in the channel between Stockton and the much smaller Presque Isle forming two one mile long crescent sand beaches. Presque Isle Bay facing the interior islands and Julian Bay facing the open lake. The Presque Isle side is heavily wooded with a steep sand ledge down to the water.
A lagoon and wetland area separates the two beaches.
Julian bay is more windswept with sand dunes and driftwood.
Calm today but this beach faces the open lake so it can roll in here in the right conditions.
Went for a swim when we got back from the hike. Significant shrinkage. Maybe 60 degree water temps.
Sunset at Presque Isle Bay.
Twilight cloud cover.
Moonrise.
