Boat was broken into yesterday...

Get this.....it's my H30 project boat that's sitting in my backyard. It was locked with just the standard hasp and pad lock. Apparently he lifted the top slider enough to bust the starboard teak slider rail and gained access. I believe I must have came home when he was in it and scared him off since only the gallery drawers and doors were open. I had a new 200 watt stereo amp just sitting there and would be something easy to steal. I only had time yesterday to temporarily fix by screwing the broken teak rail back on. I am looking for suggestions on what I can use to keep this a-hole from breaking in again. Any bar locks that will work?. Your help would be appreciated. I don't want to have to spend the day running around to find something that will work.

The stronger the lock the greater the damage. Get a big dog and install lights with motion sensors in the backyard. Don't leave anything of value inside. Hang a fake surveillance camera where it will be visible but not easily reached. No bars, unless you want to loose a hatch.

You are right Benny. I would have been better off if I just left it unlocked instead of the $100 or more in repairs now. I took out anything of worth. Even took out everyything they could use to trash my boat, like oil, paint etc. It's in my yard that has a 6 foot privacy fence right next to my neighbors backyard street light.....so it's pretty light back there. I do have a big dog but he was in the house :( I am going to look for a motion sensor that has an alarm. JohnVTX, that sign does no good if you are not home. I am packing at all times. Just hope he tries again when I'm home.

if you decide to pop one in him or her make sure they are doa or they will live to file a lawsuit
Absolutely. That would only happen if I am threatened though. Probably some homeless person thinking I had food in there. Just the green laser in his face would be all that's required.

Maybe an aluminum bar under the teak?

Leave a ladder for the guy and coat it liberally with fox urine, available at your local hunting store. Once on your hands it is smells horrible and it next to impossible to wash off. You will, of course need a second ladder for your own access.

Number Three: install a hidden switch wired to a 105 db. alarm. DO NOT go directly to deactivate it when you enter your vessel. Do several things in the cockpit, or on deck, to conceal the switch location, because Number Two: I learned decades ago, whenever you are burned, nine times out if ten, it is someone living near you. Number One: yeah, you are angry, and want revenge. Think yer way thru this, and plan. cause if you shoot this lowlife, is it worth your freedom<?>

Sounds like a kid to me. How about one of those motion sensor alarms that makes a hell of a racket?
Might just as well leave it unlocked, as you said you've removed anything of value. I doubt if there would be a 3rd try if the alarm was loud enough!
I was a fan of electrical traps until the robbery victim started getting put in jail, instead of the robber, because they worked too well. Poor, poor robber.

Been there, done that. My boat is in a slip in a marina that has security camera at the keyed entrance to the dock. Course I'm at the end of the dock so they claim the camera picked up nothing in low light at that distance. I am one slip from a 55' motor yacht with liveaboards and across from a 54 foot sail boat with liveaboards. How they got all that stuff out without anyone seeing anything is a mystery that will endure.

Yeah, I feel your pain. We had our boat home 4 DAYS! and the Honda outboard was stolen. Since it was hanging over the edge of the driveway, the prop of the motor was 6 feet off the ground. No lock but it had lock-nuts and bolts holding it on. We figure it took two people and tools to do it. As was stated, earlier, about neighbors and such, we are pretty sure it was the son of a friend or ours that took it. Allstate gave us almost the cost of the new motor, even though we couldn't give them any info on the motor stolen, that's service!

I don't believe you can legally shot someone to protect property. I've always heard locks are to keep honest people honest, crooks will break something to get in. Usually in my experience i lost more in damages than what they stole. Cameras and alarms are okay but limit damage when someone is determined to get in,

Depends on what state you live in. I would not shoot to kill someone breaking into my boat if I wasn't aboard at the time. If someone has the balls to break in while I am aboard then that's a different story. Being a victim of a armed home invasion has opened my eyes......crap can happen.

I recall one boat that had a motion sensor. It triggered a tape through a speaker on the mast, with a continuous loop- it, LOUDLY said-

"Help, ,help, boat so and so in slip so and so is being robbed"

Over and over til, shut off
