Due to all the back yard dock space here, this area has very few marinas with permanent slips of any kind. If I sail 2 hours south, and then west along the new river, there are some there. The marinas near me are mostly in and out dry storage. with only a few slips. These slips are rented by the day for boats that are in for service. (waiting list).

Well, all I can is that around here in Southern California people travel further than that just to save a few bucks on a bottom job. Some even go to Mexico (Ensenada)! Make a quasi-"weekend outing" out of it on the return, etc. However, it might not actually prove as bad in FL as it might seem now IF it mostly says over the peninsula.

Pateco,
Did you secure the permission of the other property owners to use their docks and poles to tie to? While I'd hope neighbors would take a community attitude about use of their property, I know in many places it's not like that.

Looks like we dodged the bullet. Storm has fallen apart and what is left will be west of Florida peninsula.

Thank you to everyone for the advise.

We lucked out, and Erika broke up. However, this discussion has given me a lot to think about, and I will be taking a more proactive look at my hurricane preparations for future storms.

I will be making arangements with the neighbors for cross tying, and I just ordered some fire hose for chafing gear.

This is all good advice. Prepare early, as best you can and then don't worry. Sometimes, no matter what you do they get so big no matter what you do is not enough. Sandy made me realize the wisdom of the old fighter pilot saying You can only do what you can do. Pay the insurance man, prepare as best you can. In the end its a boat. It can be replaced. Best of Luck and keep yourself safe.

PS Duct tape left a horrible residue after Irene. The salvage company didn't care after Sandy.
