We are cruising the North Channel (Lake Huron) and we had a quiet day so I decided to install the poptop canvas that came with the boat. As far as I can tell it has never been used. The tag from Ameriseam seems to indicate that it is indeed meant for a H26. When installed it looks nice however it is definitely not mosquito proof as it comes out of the box. Has anyone else had experience with these covers and mosquitoes!

I camp with mine.
It comes with a fly screen for the companionway and built I screens on the sides. If all the snaps are on its pretty good( a few drain channels on both sides need blocking.
Your top looks a bit loose. The rear bar bends towards the aft .

Fred, I bought one for my H260. It did not fit properly at all, it was a complete waste of money, we never used it. We went to a boom tent and if needed some mosquito netting over the companionway. It was much more functionall, and provides good protection from rain and sun. The boom tent can be a problem if a front comes through at mid-night !

Take care, Bob

Originally the manufacturer offered it in clear plastic without mosiqito netting. Later that was changed at my urging so it appears you have the first selection... If you call and speak with Jim Larsen, I am not sure if he could modify it at a reasonable price.

Dave.... Mine has mosquito netting with plastic sheet that attaches with Velcro. For the companionway I can choose the vinyl part that zips in to cover thaw area above the hatch boards. Alternatively I can zip in a full screen section that is supposed to cover the whole companionway entry. Neither fit well enough to prevent ingress of mosquitoes.

Currently I drape a bed net over the cabin an snap on the companionway cover to hold it in place. During the day I just stuff the excess netting under the companionway cover, lying on the plexiglass slider. That seems to work for now. We have had nights when the mosquitoes are buzzing at all the porthole screens trying to get in! :)

There are various sizes of netting and if you are referring to the nats which are smaller or in some cases no seums, then there is a finer netting for that.

Pop-top

It's not mosquito proof, but then neither is the boat itself, at least in the North Channel.

For the North Channel, I got one of those extra long bath towels and cut two strips 4" wide the whole length. Then, what I do, with or without the pop-top is I take the strips and wrap them around the base of the pop-top or under the sea hood from the hatch to the the front. If using the clear plastic instead of the screen in the hatch, I have a piece split pool noodle that I put on the top of the top hatch board. This fills the gap between the board and the cover. It's sort of T shaped to wrap the hatch board and then the ends of the T go the rest of the distance on each end.

For other places we stay, I just use the foam piece and not the towel. I also have 2" wide masking tape I use to cover any gaps in the North Channel.

Beautiful place, but the mosquitos are like no other place we go. Also we have one of those electric fly swatters, totally ineffective for flies, but it is a mosquito KILLER! We would never go to the North Channel without it!

Just came back from 3 glorious weeks in the North Channel. I heard your boat name several times on the vhf. Hope you had a good time. High winds this year!

Our bed net approach worked well even though it is not elegant. I am thinking to get rid of my pop top canvas since I don't use it.
