Good morning ,

I have a 1980 Catalina 30 TRBS. I installed new anchor and spreader lites before launch this year, everything worked as it should until a few weeks ago. Where do the wires come though the deck? I have looked al over and am stumped.

Thankyou in advance,

Shannon

The wires come down the mast and then run thru the step and down the inside liner. On my 78 they fed into the harness from the overhead behind the galley drawers and from there the bundle travels over to the fuse panel.

Of course things change over the course of 30+ years but that is how it started.

The factory wires are not tinned or marine grade and the connector at the mast step is a trailer 4 way flat. I replaced all my wiring with the correct stuff when I had the mast stepped and fitted pvc pipe to feed it thru.

Good luck, hopefully it is just a bad connection behind the fuse panel or some such.

The aft drawers by the companionway ?
Yes, if the drawer assembly is pulled it runs up the inboard side of the space. On mine I put an anchor to keep them close to the bulkhead because when I put the drawer assembly back in it tends to catch the harness on the corner.

I believe if you climb down into the sail locker and look forward toward the galley you may also see a few wires were they go up into the liner. A PO on my boat had spliced into my harness at that location to feed a tiller pilot. No big deal for me since I have rewired the entire boat and don't use the harness.

There are inexpensive signal generators for tracing wires that can be really helpful.

The mast wiring goes through the deck and down the compression post and out through the bilge. You can follow the wires back to the DP. When was the last time you stepped your mast? All the connections are at the base of the mast inside. Some have cut an access plate in the side of the mast to make it easier to access them. Others have rerouted them to a bus bar somewhere in the head. more often than not it's a ground problem.

I'm going to put up a radar without taking
down the mast. Has anybody run their
radar or other wires out the bottom of the
mast and through the deck?

Any recommendations?
