reefing line length

I have a Pearson 28-2 boat that I am looking to replace the internal boom reefing lines. This is a 1 line setup for each reef, there are 2 reefs on the main. Can anyone shed some light onto the length required ? Also what is the recommended line type preference to minimize friction on the system.

I would suggest you measure because your reef points might be at a different height on the sail as others.

Good point, I was going to add extra but need a rough idea as I would like to attach the 2 and feed the new one through.

Get a spool of inexpensive twine and rig things up.... then measure the twine. Or just use a tape measure to measure each leg.... there won't be any purchase inside the boom... just a straight run. Or, since you're replacing an existing line....use the twine as a messenger... tie it to one end and remove the old line... measure.. cut the new line... use the messenger to reave the new one.

Keep it simple and only rerun the upper one. It will draw down to both levels anyway. Thats how I rigged mine and I like one less line. Chief
