Beneteau 461 ?
Hi , We are looking at a Beneteau 461 and I am doing some research on the boat.

I would like to know what type of hull deck joint this boat has, have heard comments that the Beneteau has a lousy joint......

Any comments or suggestions as to where I can find this information.

Thanks

kari, have you considered Google or any other internet search engine? They usually find information like that very well. Good luck.

Most of the Benes I've worked on over 42' have an inward flange that is through bolted.

The sort answer is "A Leaky One"
I have a 2000 Beneteau Oceanis 461. I have a substantial leak at the starboard side bow. Which soaks the V-berth, book shelf, etc. But it only leaks when I am in heavy weather off shore. When the boat bounces off the waves. It must have some hull flex which lets the water in. In the marina in heavy rains or with a power full water hose no leakage shows.
I do not believe the deck is bolted through with a bolt & nut. Rather held together with wood screws. That's what the Beneteau parts page shows ?!
I am now returning the boat from a winter trip to Florida and the Bahamas to the Chesapeake Bay. As soon as I get home I will look into this annoying leakage problem.
Any advice is very much appreciated.

You have to be careful when considering comments, that way be pirates and boat salesmen!

Peter, you can always look in the lazz or anchor locker to see the hardware. (You missed the IRS Cruise.)

Some smaller Finot-designed Firsts use a combination of adhesive, screws, and bolts into the toereals to secure the joint. The screws and bolts are on alternating centers. I actually was rather surprised to hear of the screws (on a boat I own!), so I contacted a friend who is a designer for Cong-Finot. He said that the screws where primarily there to hold the deck-hull together while the adhesive set, and the toerail was added later. He also told be that J-M Finot owned (and sail the crap out of) one of these boats he designed and approved of the construction technique. That made me feel better, as well as made me smile, thinking of the grand old man thrashing through the Brittany surf with tiller in hand and a pipe in mouth. The biggest one I know of that does this is the First 300 Sprint (not sold in the USA)
