engine mount

Not that I'm having problem with my 13 year old Yanmar 2GM20F engine mount but I'm wondering if there's any gain in dampening if I put in new sets of mount?
Just thinking out loud.

Hey Ken,

My mounts are original from 1998 except for the aft starboard one. That was replaced about 2004 because it was soaked with diesel fuel from a small hidden leak.

I've kept an eye on the mounts each time I check the alignment of the engine (every other year) and I don't think I've raised them more than a minute amount. No measurements in thou as it's done by feel as the xmission coupling and shaft coupling are slightly different diameters. But no, no sagging of the mounts that I've seen. The original clearance was about 3/8" and it still measures out the same. This is after about 2100 running hours. Engine still runs smoothly above 1200 RPM.

I haven't been able to find anything on replacing mounts in the factory manual. I think if they're kept clean, there's no telling how long they'll last.

Ralph, thanks for info. I see the 3/8" is measured at no load. Do you if there's a measurement for mount gap with engine on it?

That was the fuel soaked mount which I didn't bother measuring. The mounts under load are showing approx. 3/8".

I see the mass of the engine is 114 kg. so that's a force of about 63 lbs. which isn't going to compress the mounts too much.

I put Bar heavy duty mounts on my Yanmar and had harmonic vibration except at a few rpm ranges. I found a replacement from R&D that should not fail like Yanmar and have the same damping range. They look great have a spacer so they match the original height. The only thing I cannot say, is I have not yet used them yet as I am still on the hard.

Has any body tried these mounts?
Thanks

Waybad, how have your Yanmar mounts failed ? Age, contamination, or .................. ?

BTW, who is R&D ?

R&D is a brand

They make the damper plates for a lot of engines (that a lot of us have swapped out) as well as flexible couplings (have one I like).

FWIW I swapped out the motor mounts on my Universal with the mm-small ones at http://www.avproductsinc.com/mobile-marine/mounts.html. They did drop the noise considerably and most importantly got rid of that annoying tock-tock-tock you could hear on the dock.
