Oday 34 Cape coral yacht basin
Can anyone steer me to information on sail handling line replacement sizes and lengths ?
I have had the boat only a year now and when not in use I do try to keep my lines covered or put away. I can not find anywhere which has the line sizes anywhere and would like to get spares since my boat in in the South Florida sun year round. Not referring about life lines just sail lines for main, jib, spinaker and boom.

Other than finding an O'Day 34 manual online, ITWMB I'd measure them.

I have a very reliable manual for my boat.

I STILL measure before I buy new lines.

Sorry I can't help any on line size, but it is easy to measure the length.

Attach a flexible measuring tape to the sail end of your halyard ( I would also attach a messenger to use to pull the halyard back down. ) Hoist the end of the measuring tape to the top of the mast; measure to the point where the halyard exits the mast. Measure the line exiting the mast.. ( A second measuring tape would be helpful, but you could always lower the halyard long enough to disconnect the M-tape then hoist again with just the messenger. ) Add the two measurements together and maybe add a little extra length if you think it is needed.

I'd change the "maybe" to ALWAYS. :dance: For halyards I add five feet. You eventually want to redo the halyard shackle and put a stopper knot on the boat end. For control lines you need knots - think jib sheets - plus figure eight stopper knots at the stern end. For traveler control lines, they wear out and figure eights at the ends, too.

Just think it through logically and you'll do just fine.

And a line that's too short...well, you can guess, right? :eek:

Choose you options, it will tell you the size line, then the next page shows the length.
