Finally launch day here in Watkins Glen in Upstate New York on Seneca Lake. Really nice to see my boat touch water again.

Here are a few picks:

Note the new dock at the Village Marina. Really nice touch to run the pier right out to the outer pilings.

We are proud of our 272. She is a proud boat. She shines among the fleet. People say she looks new!

We have some nice changes this year:

Switched to a flat traveler from Garhauer. I will post a pic next time I am at the boat. The original 272 traveler setup seemed like an afterthought with pieces missing! No control lines? ?
The new Garhauer will work great with the new mainsheet setup I installed late last season: 4:1 fiddle block with cam cleat right on the traveler. Oh yes, the 272 mainsheet system was not convenient or effective either!

Installed remote throttle. That was wonderful to use today. No more diving over the transom to throttle and shift.

Installed a new anchor roller and anchor. We opted for a Kingston Plow. We noticed a few people have them. It should set nicely in the sand and mud here. I need to install an additional roller to hold the anchor nicely on the roller due to the arched shank, but it will work great after that.

Here is hoping everyone gets in the water soon, safe, and ready to sail.

Thanks,

Andrew

Sailing on Seneca Lake is on my bucket list. My First Mate and her sisters took me there before she was My First Mate. We had been dating about a year. Had lunch, wine and beer at Wagner Vineyard. Dang it's pretty up there. It was my first time ever in the great state of New York. This Southern Boy thought NY was one great big city until that trip. (seriously) Have a great season and *please* post pictures and videos.

Yeah, I got new portlights from D&R. They look great. We are slowly redoing the boat. She is a nice boat.

Thanks!

Your 272 is looking great!
Is that standard to raise the mast after launching?

We launched Friday but still finishing up some spring projects. 1st sail is scheduled for this weekend.

Our yard's crane is at the dock. I think it could be done either way. I think in this situation, doing it at the water allows them to keep the crane out of the way of the parking lot for the pub!

I am raising the mast on a friend's Oday 26 tomorrow at the dock. He couldn't get a local yard to call him back. The boat has been in the water a week, so we decided to do it ourselves.

Thanks,

Andrew

Andrew, was the removal of the old portlights difficult? did you need to use any special products to remove the old sealer (caulk)? Ours are blue and scratched...

You can undo the screws. Use a scraper or putty knife to slowly separate the windows from the fiberglass. Once the windows are removed, use a razor to carefully remove the remaining sealant. Then clean the surface with acetone. The opening Beckson's port is a little tougher to separate. You have to remove the inner bolts and carefully remove the outer ring.

Cut away all the remaining sealant in the openings.

When installing the new windows, use DOW 795. Follow the instructions on which parts to sand and paint black. You will use the screws to hold the windows in place while the sealant cures. Once it cures, use more sealant to fill up to the edge of the windows.

Thanks,

Andrew
