12 Volt Supply for Hobbs Meter

As discussed by many on this forum the hour meter died again on my new (second) tach after 3 years. Giving up on the hour meter and will install a stand alone Hobbs meter in the engine compartment. I have a Yanmar 4JH4E. Anyone have any suggestions as best place to pick up 12 volts somewhere near the engine when the engine is on?

Thanks
Marc

splice it into your oil pressure switch and it will be on whenever you run your engine

Rats. I thought you had a new and faster way to grow homegrown 'maters.

hook it up to the common hot wire that runs the rest of your gauges...

Connect to the key switch and every time you turn the key on it will power the hour meter. With the aid of the alarm buzzer is unlikely you will leave the key on without the engine being ran.

i think the op is putting it in the engine compartment and that is why i said hook it to the oil pressure alarm switch as the wire feeding it is always hot when the key is turned on
