We are on a cruise in the Bahamas. The raw water pump on our Yanmar failed. I asked questions about a replacement on a thread in destinations.

We had a great response from the sailors in these forums. We want to thank everyone for all your help. We got a number of personal emails offering to lend us pump, buy a pump and ship it to us and on and on. What a great group !

I contacted Depco as was suggested here and they were fantastic. It required quite a few emails and several photographs for them to confirm the correct pump for us. We ordered one new pump and a rebuild kit for the original pump so we will have a spare in the future. The total cost was not much over $300. They shipped the pump and parts to a UPS store in Ft Lauderdale. A friend picked them up and carried them here last weekend. It all fit perfect. The new pump came with the correct bracket and pulley.

So we just wanted to be sure all who offered help know that is was much appreciated and useful. It got the problem solved and we now have a backup.

Nice work all round.

You were very lucky to get hand delivery!

What would it have cost to ship to Marsh Harbor?

I paid $58 to fedex a piece of paper to Nassau, 7 day delivery from FL.

From what other cruisers told me it is often stopped in Nassau and then it can be a big delay and expense. Ordering through a local dealer is best. They only put orders in once a month and it is delivered 4 or 5 weeks later if all goes well. We had a friend here last year that waited two months to get a part delivered, had to hire a customs agent to finally get it.

In our case we gave our friend a copy of our cruising permit and the invoice with the pump stated it was a propulsion part for our boat. That seemed to make the whole process easier. We did not have to pay any duties.

Glad to see everything is now OK and hoping that the rest of your trip is trouble-free.
Take your time coming back to Ottawa. Health issues forced me to come back to Montreal mid-March and there is still 18" of snow in my back yard and I'm convinced the temp is around - 1000 !!! Claude

I had a friend on a 40' sportfish that overheated in Abaco, had the head removed, put in his luggage and flew it into FLL for an exchange, and was back on the water in a week.

He knew how long it could take, w/ shipping..

-Still its not too bad place to be stuck...

Glad to hear it worked out Bob!

Hey, is Cracker P's open Saturday? full moon.... :D
