Companionway board storage

With spring promising to arrive eventually..............

One of the admirals projects is to sew covers for our companionway boards. We saw, I though on this forum, someone had made a nice pouch out of sunbrella that fit behind the companionway stairs to hold the boards. Tried searching every way I can think of and found nothing. This sound familiar to anyone?

Thanks!

C,

I use my lazarette behind the wheel for my boards. It makes for quick storage & retrieval.
I have a large shower towel I lay the large board on. I then put another inside my binnacle cover & the small board on top of the cover.

For me, it's much easier than stowing below & going thru the hassle of using covers.

Factory installed on the MKIII's too but I didn't care for it. A divided storage pouch would work better.

I removed ours and just put the boards in the aft berth.

I know the picture you're talking about.....and can't find it again either!!!!
However - I was S-M-R-T... printed a copy and have it at home in the filing cabinet, under "To-Do's". I'll scan and post it this evening.

Thanks but I found the one I was thinking of. It's on the Yahoo group, not this one as I had thought. Although I wouldn't mind seeing what you've got in case it's different.

Well look at that! Not what I was thinking of but good to know. The Admiral already has the sunbrella so pre-made isn't really what we need but thanks!!

Ahh, I assume it was this one? It's what I have a photo of at home (or at least one just like it). I followed your suggestion and looked on Yahoo. Had completely forgotten about that group!! So thanks! Another good resource for us!

Yes! That's the one. The admiral and I both like this one. And from the looks of things we'll have one shortly. I'll try to remember to post photos after she makes it.

Right now I just store them on the quarter berth I like the idea of putting them in a bag though, I think I would prefer to have them mounted on the wall in the quarter berth behind the stairs.

Looking at this picture I am curious did someone modify their stairs to come straight down or did Catalina start making them this way? Sure got me thinking about modifying my stairs to give me more room walking by them in the galley. I keep hitting the cabinet door on the floor at the back of the engine compartment with my feet. I like the idea of having just a little more room in that area. What do you all think ?

I don't have an actual answer to your question but I can tell you that our '83 has stairs just like those in the photo.

Thank you for your response, my friend has an 83 and I never looked at his stairs. Now I'm going to have to go and take a look to see if it's something I could do to my 1978 Catalina Hull number 980
