AS I decommissioned my boat last fall, I always run the Macerator pump after flushing the holding tank. Well it didn't start. Can anyone tell me if there is a fuse in line somewhere? How can I test the pump. I hate to buy a new one before I test the old one. Thanks, BobCat30

Did it make any noise or just dead silence?

Mine has some issues either with the impeller plus it had something wrapped around it that prevent the motor from spinning (hair maybe). Unless you listened carefully you couldn't really hear it try to pump.

As far as a fuse, mine is wired direct to the panel. Its a circuit breaker on the panel. Some older panels have fuses instead. Do you know what panel you have or do you have a photo of it?

Catalina installed mine with just standard butt connectors (not the heat shrink waterproof kind) at the pump. They weren't corrosion resistant but they do allow you to check them with a multimeter. You could try testing it before you do anything to see if it is getting power.

Also, if the pump is clogged there is a screw on the back of the pump that you can turn to try and free the pump. It didn't work on mine, so I just replaced it. I don't rebuild macerators.

That made me chuckle, thanks.

Next fall, THOROUGHLY flush out the whole system INCLUDING the macerator with lots of clean fresh water...the remove the impeller for the winter. Your macerator will have 95% odds of firing right up next spring after you put the impeller back. Although, if you're smat, you'll put a new impeller in it instead.

My pump is a ITT ??? 1859?0000 ( the ? is a mystery number. Anyone have the same? Please let me know if you have the missing number. Anyone have a suggestion as to to a good Macerator pump? Amazon has them for just over $100. Cal Direct is $259. Go figure.
Thanks Bobcat

Jabsco was a subsidiary company of ITT for decades...what you have is a Jabsco 18590-2092 Macerator Waste Pump.

Don't let it throw you if you see the name "Xylem" as the parent company for Jabsco...ITT spun Jabsco off to Xylem a couple of years ago.
