Walked Out To My Mooring Today......

For the first time I have ever witnessed the Atlantic Ocean in front of our house has frozen solid enough so I could literally walk to our mooring. All that was present was a hint of the cedar "winter stick"... I estimate the ice to be approx 8" thick.....!! I almost walked the .75 miles over to Sturdivant Island but the wind was blowing over 30 knots and I had shorts on..... ;) Amazing consistently cold winter....

Here we had warm (56f) sunshine. Too warm to keep my jacket on when I was in the sun. We're at 48 degrees North. I keep having to remind myself it's winter.

Just be glad you didn't see it with your own eyes. There are things you can't unsee. :D

Ice sure has it's way with floating docks. This is Burnham Harbor last Saturday - Soldiers Field in the background. The docks in the foreground should be parallel to those on the opposite side of the harbor.

Everyone at the marina keeps posting photos of walking around there boat here at Constitution Marina in Boston. Some of our fellow liveboards have been here 15 years and can't ever remember being able to do that. Come on spring

My mooring field is a fishing shanty town now. This has been the coldest February and maybe whole winter ever here in Michigan. The ice usually starts clearing out on mid March, but we'll probably be into April or May this year.

I HATE this cold weather. I mean HATE too. I feel it worse than ever too.

This reminds me of when I use to go Groundhog hunting! Nothing like picking off varmits with a 30ot6.

I can't wait until spring gets here. I have work to do to get ready for the season!

I HATE-ed it too. So I left. Got the !$&@ out.

And we were just in the mid Atlantic. Still too miserable.

No sailor should have to sit for 5 months a year in idle. Cold, locked up, winterized idle.

Best wishes for a thaw for you all.

Where I am 56°f is considered brutally cold. Shorts would not fly. That may be due to the humidity though. I have noticed when up north that a dry cold does not feel the same as a wet cold.
