securing the genoa tack to the furler drum...

...what are you guys using to attach the genoa tack to the furler drum...are you just lashing it or do you use a pendant made out of cable and thimbles with a swage kremp

A shackle - but I guess it depends what furler you have.

I use a lashing which is really just a loop of line. It always me to easily change the height of the sail.

maybe i need to add more information here ...

...it has a 9 and 1/2 inch gap between the tack shackle on the sail and the snap shackle on the furler drum ...should i use a wire pendant with thimbles or use a 5/16 line and lash it with about 3 wraps?

Our Genoa is high cut and has about 24" of luff tape extending at the tack. This keeps the sail above the lifelines and pulpit but feeds into the extrusion so that it winds back on the furler evenly.

Ours is attached using really strong 1/4 inch line (3 loops) and has been and works perfectly....a little tediious to get off when you want to change it, but that is better than too easy to get off....works great.

I've done it both ways and find either method works equally well. Probably just a matter of preference on your part.

That's what we do, too. High hoist, adjust luff tension with the line at the drum. Easy to release at the end of a sailing day or weekend before furling it, for when the boat's not in use.

well now thats good to know that you let off the luff tension when not using the sail ...i am thinking maybe hoist it up as high as it will go and then lash the tack to the drum shackel as tight as i can get it ...and at the end of each time just back off on the jib halyard to store it when not in use and tighten up the halyard again when using it...does this sound ok

...incase i didn't say i have a very old Hood furler (seafurl 2) that is in great shape and i would like to take care of it
