Can anyone provide a recommendation for a comprehensive sailing manual? I tried a search of the site but was unsuccessful.

For background, I am a relatively new owner of a Hunter 36 and would like to have a single book that provides information from basic sail trim, to maintenance, to cruising. My boat is moored in the Puget Sound and I intend to primarily day sail pending my retirement where I will start my cruising life..

"The Complete Sailing Manual" appears to be a good choice but would appreciate opinions. Thanks.

Annapolis Book of Seamanship

The Annapolis Book of Seamanship is about as comprehensive as is gets. It includes all aspects of sailing including navigation, sail trim, anchoring, you name it. I find it to be a very helpful resource. It's more of a Large Book than manual.

one book can hit on all the subjects that one would ever be curious about concerning sailing and seamanship, but there is sooo much to learn/say/write/teach about each individual subject, that it cannot be summed up properly or even included all in one volume... its not possible.

one good book just caused my curiosity to spike, and then many more books had to be obtained....

my advice is look for several books by different authors on the various subjects that interest you the most and read them... then branch out in to the other subjects as you learn more and your curiosity pulls you that way...

and no matter how much you read and how much you can quote from the books you read, if you dont have and practice decent seamanship skills, the books and knowledge wont help...

Sailing for Dummies.

Really.
exactly the book that prompted me to buy a sailboat in the first place... and after all the books that I have been through since, the "sailing for dummies" book still has some lessons to teach;)

Thanks to all. Definitely on to the Annapolis book. Sailing For Dummies? Now that surprises me. Never thought to take that seriously. Anyway, off to Poulsbo, WA from Port Ludlow this weekend. Looking forward to it. Will do some reading. Thanks again!
