What is the difference between the Reinforced 1/2" reinforced PVC hose you buy at West Marine from the same hose you buy at Lowes or any Hardware store?

The price is a lot different and you save money buying it from Lowes. It says it is food quality. It also has the same listed bursting strength etc.

If you can see (you have to look very closely) a spiral wound PVC cord in the cheaper sample, they're probably the same thing. Also, try bending the cheaper one at a 90 deg. angle. It should not collapse and close the internal bore.

Remember, this is Waste Marine you're talking about.

If this is just for domestic water as long as they are both NSF potable rated both will work. If this is for below waterline use I personally won't use any PVC hose.....

This is for my fresh water system. I have taken out the system the previous owner used and gone to a flexible tank in the bow (the location of the original water tank).

I am guestimating the run of less than 30' but it seems really hard to get a good measure of the run. It is probably less than 30' but I wouldn't mind some extra for when I plumb in a fresh water pump and T off a place for a cold water cockpit shower.

It may be listed as food grade, but that doesn't mean it was tested with potable water sitting in 30ft of PVC hose for days/weeks, or chlorinated. That hose is meant to be a flexible coupling to true potable water piping. PEX piping would be preferable. Just saying.
