I was looking over the wire standing rigging on my recently purchased 8.5. I believe the rigging is original 1981 and it is loose all around. I was wondering if anyone has replaced their rigging and knows where to go for best pricing and service. Any idea what type fittings this boat uses for the terminations? They look like they are crimped on not like the Norseman type. Any idea what it would cost to replace all the wire (front back and six shrouds)? Thanks for the help.

i have had mine replaced by SECO South in Largo fl.....i looked everywhere and found them to be the best priced and also the same company that made Hunters rigging back when it was hunter and they were fantastic to deal with and prompt too i don't think you will beat them ...on a side note i did my own installing

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll look them up. How much did it cost to replace everything if you don't mind me asking?

i replaced exactly what you are replacing for aft and 6 shrouds and got new open turnbuckle bodies only and kept my toggles they were all good and it cost me less than $900.00 your should not cost any more unless they have had a price increase.... it was less than the figure i gave you but i don't think its far to give the exact on the net that way nobody can abuse their customer privilege ....

and i don't have any connection to them just very satisfied ...they are great people to do business with.... give them a call and get the directions on what and how to send them your old rigging so they can match it for replacement ...there are some things that they will ask you to do so it will be accurate

Thanks for the information. That's a reasonable cost for peace of mind when sailing. I'll give them a call and find out what they need for dimensions. Thanks again for the assistance!

if you send dimensions only and you get them back and they don't fit you will take it on the chin ...if you send the rigging they will match it exactly and if it doesn't fit they will take it on the chin...the turnaround is not that bad..... they don't play games ..i carried mine to them when i was on a trip down there and left it with them and a week later it was at my door being delivered

New standing rigging is money well spent on a boat of this age. I replaced the rig on my '83 8.5 4 years ago, in Seattle, with everything from the chain plates up: pins, toggles, turnbuckles etc. including new lifelines it was around $1100, delivered to my mast. For the difference in cost, I would advise reusing NOTHING of the old parts. When you're going for that second reef, the peace of mine will be worth it.
