Anybody know what this is? It's about 24" x 24" canvas material. What you see in the corner is a chain that is sewn into the edges of this. Could it be a flopper stopper? Other ideas?

I'm in the market as were . Colonial Beach
I was thinking of weather cloths but it is too small for that.

Check around your boat for something similar to the size of the canvas.

maybe used inside the cabin? Are there 4 anchor points at the corners of your hatches?

It would be better if the picture was not upside-down.

One of those 'nets' like firemen use to catch people that jump from burning buildings- except this one's for someone who falls off the mast and there is limited landing area on deck?

It was on the boat when I got it and is the only one on the boat, so I doubt it's a hatch cover. Not the color of the sunbrella on the sails either. I think too small to be a sea anchor or anything like that, plus I doubt it's strong enough. I just did a clean up on the boat and am trying to figure out whether to throw this away.

Just throw it away, then you'll discover what it is and really need it, but it will be gone.

I did that once with a weird shaped piece of plastic I found in my work truck. Not a week later, I found it was one of the foot inserts for the leg bottoms of an expensive aluminum folding work table. Now with only three of the four feet, I cannot level the table without shims.

Put it in a box labeled Misc., and save it.

Saved my self a bundle recently. I had a weird clamp on my stern rail, and some "unknown" parts in a tub in the cabin on my new boat. Almost removed the clamp and tossed the parts. Last weekend, I was cleaning out under one of the berths, and found a bag containing the rest of the parts to a really nice stern rail mounted outboard motor hoist. Good thing I didn't toss the other parts.
