Location of Generator water lift muffler

I am planning on installing my diesel generator in the starboard lazarette.

For those of you with generators installed, where did you install your water lift muffler and where does your exhaust exit. I'm thinking I'll have the exhaust fitting exit just above the waterline not too far from the regular diesel exhaust. I was just wondering where you have mounted your muffler. I have a Vetus water lift muffler.

Thanks in advance

Is it possible to "T" into the exhaust line from your engine before the muffler?

Possible but probably not wise

I imagine it would be possible but then your exhaust when the diesel engine is running would be going to the exhaust of the generator and possibly putting water into the exhaust and then into the cylinders. I don't think that would be a wise setup.

On the ac41 they have separate exhausts, and the install and locations are documented in the schematics on the hunter web site. I am not sure if you have a 410 manual, but you may want to look at the AC41 pictures. Our WLM is located very low and far back on the port side. My only suggestion is that you try to acoustically isolate it from the boat, as ours is mounted on a wall or floor board and the noise is amplified into the structure. Not horrible, but it could be much quieter if it had been installed differently.

Thanks for the info. I looked up the manual online and it doesn't give the elevation view of the generator and exhaust.

I plan on a custom install in the starboard rear lazarette (where the Shore Power cable hooks up and the Battery Isolation switch is located) with a sound isolation "gasket" between the newly installed floor (dropped 1 inches from standard) of the lazarette. I'll use a rubber isolation gasket along the whole joint. In addition, the generator itself has sound isolation mounts. I'll also be installing 1" of sound insulation around the whole generator. I'm not kidding myself that it will be "quiet" but I'll do all I can to make it tolerable when it has to be run.

The info I'm looking for is whether the water lift muffler is located near the generator itself in the lazarette (on the same level as the bottom of the generator) or whether the muffler is located closer to the exhaust exit from the boat (lower down) in the scoop stern lazarette's just before the overboard exhaust discharge? The water mixing occurs directly at the exhaust exit from the engine at the top of the engine.

Since the whole assembly is above the waterline why would you even need a water lift muffler?

My WFM is about 2 feet behind the gen set and below the unit. I suspect so that cooling water can fall away from the manifold.

I have a Phasor generator installed in the Port cockpit lazerette and when I purchased the boat it did not have a waterlift muffler. IT WAS LOUD !!!!! I installed the muffler in the Starboard aft locker and exits the stearm near the main engine exhaust. Works great and has been installed for 10 years.
