Wish there were more active members here

Since it is an internet minefield on other forums to be a Hunter owner I wish there were more owners here. I wonder if there is some way to increase membership? Something like the site info being given to new buyers. Or some way to search registration for owners and invite them?

Would seem some marketing would be a benefit to the site owners as more members equals more part sales etc.

I'm not quite sure what you mean... this is far and away the largest concentration of Hunter owners on any web site.

FWIW, we do actively promote the site in Google searches, and it is ranked in the top 3 by just about every Hunter-related keyword.

MS is right. Even though I own a Hunter Cherubini, I seldom post in the "Hunter forum". I mostly post in the "Ask All Sailors" forum. I received a ton of great info here during my renovation project that didn't need to be "Cherubini" specific. I also use the "all discussions" tab when I log on. It lists the latest posts in all forums.

That's a great point. The more specific the forum, the less traffic it gets.

Also, winter. :) Forum traffic generally follows the same curve as temperatures.

Ditto Kito!

If I have something specific to Hunter, I use the Hunter forum. Otherwise, I use All Sailors. Since components are typically non-specific to a manufacturer, I get broader input. I also use the Location and Racing forums which, off the top, are not brand-specific. I also know a lot of owners who lurk and don't post. I have been shocked to meet them and that's what they tell me.

I admit to being put off by the rancor and rudeness on some other popular sites. I have looked at them but the threads deteriorate so rapidly it isn't worth my time despite having sometimes good info.

Re: Ditto Kito!

I've been using the site off and on for several years. I use it for a few reasons...to get ideas for using my boat; to get answers to specific questions; most frequently I use it to relax from work...reminding me that there are some things in life which decrease stress - sailings a great way to do this.

the members of this site are not loud and abusive to one another as some other sites allow, so its a bit quieter here, but dont take that to mean there is no one around or there is not enough members to help you with what you need. quiet and respectful is good:)

there are many on this site that can and will help you out even though they may not own a hunter like you do.... not all sailing things are specific to the boat model, and no single group of owners has a monopoly on the knowledge base that is nearly endless, as far as sailing goes, so its good to be associated with good helpful people rather than those who may cut you down because you dont own the same kind of boat that they do:D

I agree, this is the ONE boating website that never does Hunter-bashing. They're great boats. I recently became a personal friend with a Hunter owner in Canda! :)

Agreed that many questions are not manufacturer-specific, like electrical or plumbing systems.

I always use this link to see ALL posts, and learn something new every day:

Numbers alone don't make a site... This site is more like family where the older siblings really help the younger ones... like me! I'd probably be underwater if not for the wisdom of so many here.. This site is awesome. -Jon

I am new to sailing and am a happy Hunter owner. I am a little surprised at hearing about Hunter bashing though. I see the Hunter line as innovative. I am finding that more of my fellow members, at the marina I am at, are acknowledging that the yacht has many good points.

I think some of the Hunter bashers have old small boats and other appendages.

Bashing

Bashing production boats, or just bashing the boat next to you is a time-honored pastime. I'm old enough to remember when it was Islander's time to be bashed, then Catalina, and now it appears Hunter. Usually lasts about a decade or so until some new popular boat line emerges. Maybe the next one is Lagoons :D

Down in FL in the late '80's and early '90's, Irwin's & Hunters both were bashed for poor construction, Island Packets for being slow, Catalinas for being boring; and of course among the power boaters, Bayliners were reviled. What did the bashers like? Tartans, Valliants, Cabo Ricos, Sabres, Shannons, Gulfstars, J-boats, and to a certain degree, Morgans and Pearsons, etc. Among the powerboats-- Hatteras, Bertrands, Grady Whites, and Blackfins, etc. What would you choose if sailing to PR from FL & return-- a Hunter Cherubini or a Gulfstar Sailmaster? I know a guy (British, of course) who did it in a Ranger 29. I think I'd pick a Swan!

Bavarias get their own share of bashing as well; what gets bashed about 'em seems justified to me!

I hate boat bashing. It's a kin to mocking someone's wife or kids. No one knows the decisions that went into someone's boat purchase. The internet allows anonymous comments from armchair admirals with no personal accountability.

I'm not ashamed of what I sail because I am out sailing it rather than pontificating from behind a computer screen.

Most of the bashers are just parroting what they have heard and have no first hand experience of what and why they are bashing a particular brand. It's everywhere on the net. When I had my Honda motorcycle the Honda forums bashed Harleys. When I sold my Honda for the Harley I have now, the Harley forums bashed all non-Harley bikes.
